Alan R. Denniston: Owner, Lead Designer & Project Director
Formal Architectural Training Combined With Hands-On Building Expertise
Alan is a native of the Washington Metropolitan Area and is the driving force behind Artisan Residential Design. His lifetime passion for working with his hands and for all things ‘built’ began early in the workshop of his grandfather, then continued with his first job as a journeyman carpenter with a local full-service remodeling company.
Over 35 Years of Experience
Initially studying Liberal Arts at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Alan’s ambition for perfecting his training and expertise as a designer and builder led to the completion of an intensive year of coursework in Wooden Boat Building & Naval Architecture at the Landing School in Kennebunkport, Maine, supplemented by a Certificate in Business Administration from Georgetown University. After several years of owning and operating a successful construction and carpentry business, Alan returned to the University of Maryland, where he graduated in 1998 with a BS in Architecture.
Following his work with local architectural design/build firms as a project architect, Alan founded Artisan Residential Design in the fall of 2001. Since that time, Alan has led the Artisan team in providing high quality design services for homeowners and builders on over 140 residential projects throughout the Washington Metropolitan area.
Alan lives in Maryland with his wife and two daughters in his own personally remodeled home.
